In our small, yet thriving community of La Conner, there are countless unsung heroes amongst us, quietly going about their duty of keeping the town safe. Often, their selfless acts and dedication go unrecognized, but occasionally, the stars align to bring them the recognition they truly deserve. This year, that honor goes to Sam Banaszak, who has been named La Conner Firefighter of the Year 2023.

Sam went above and beyond the call of duty by responding to 90% of all fire-related calls in 2023!  Beyond his remarkable response rate, Sam’s impeccable work ethics and professionalism, and his approachable demeanor have earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues, culminating in this prestigious award.

Sam also keeps the firehall’s antique firetruck, “41” operational and drives it in all of town’s seasonal parades and events.

We extend our sincerest congratulations to Sam Banaszak and express our deepest gratitude to him and the La Conner firefighters for their selfless service. Together, they inspire us all to be better, kinder, and more prepared for whatever challenges may come our way.
